Grumpy's Top 10 Disney Movies

Hey Guys!

It's been a little while since I last posted – life has been pretty busy! In between attending fitness classes, going to weddings and just general life stuff, I have also started an exciting new job at a large tech company in Brighton.

Exciting times!

If you're thinking "hey, I clicked on this post because you mentioned your Boyfriend (Grumpy) in the title, I don't care what you've been up to"... then have no fear, the wait is over.

My Disney-disliking 'Grumpy' Boyfriend is taking over the reins today with his "Top 10 Disney Movies."

Getting him to put this together was... well, let's just say 'challenging'.

What can I say except, you're welcome.

My review of the Maple and Whisky Candle Company!

Hey my little Disneys!

I hope you're all enjoying the Summer! I know it's only August, but believe it or not, I'm already SO excited about my favourite season, Autumn.

I've made no secret of the fact that I absolutely love all things Autumn, and typically I'm already raiding the shelves of my local Homesense, and picking up all the beautifully decorative pumpkins and scented candles ready for the season ahead. C
andles in particular are one of my absolute favourite things, but I always feel strange lighting them during the Summer months...

Where I can, I LOVE to incorporate Disney into my home too, as subtly and sophisticatedly as possible, and there is a brand that totally allows you to do this with it's amazing range of scents and fragrances...

I present to you all, the Maple & Whisky Candle Company!

I have been a HUGE fan of Maple & Whisky's offering for several years now...

From Dole Whip to Pirates of The Caribbean, Walt's Office to The Grand Floridian Hotel... there isn't any scent that takes me back to Disney trips that Maple & Whisky haven't perfectly captured in their wonderful range of candles, melts, diffusers and room sprays!

I was very lucky to receive a couple of my favourite Maple and Whisky candles as a gift, and I can't wait to review them for you in this post.

Enjoy! And if you too feel the desire to purchase a little Disney magic for your home, be sure to use the discount code MERCEDES10 to receive some money off!

- Enjoy! And let me know your favourites!

My favourite Disney Park Snacks!

Hey everyone!

I hope you're all having a great Summer so far! It was Pride weekend in Brighton last weekend, plus I had a Wedding too... so it's been super, super busy!

For those of you that have followed the blog or my social channels for a while now, you'll know that one of my favourite things (perhaps my all time favourite thing) about visiting Disney Parks is the food. It's been a while since I did a food related post so I thought it was about time I shook things up!

Yippee! Mickey's Candy Cotton Soda from Disney's California Adventure Food and Wine Festival

For any of you that have listened to the ChatDisney Podcast, you'll know that I have been less than impressed with some of the food offerings at Disneyland Paris and Shanghai Disneyland in recent years so I felt, in order to balance out the negativity with the positivity, the yin to the yang, it was about time I highlighted my favourite things to eat at Disney Parks. Enjoy! And don't get too hungry glancing through this list!

My Biggest Disney Fear Reveal...

I hope you're all having a brilliant Summer! Mine has been a lot more chilled than last year – I had six weddings to attend in 2018, so as I'm sure you can imagine, it was pretty full on!

Not having as many plans this year has naturally got me thinking about travel plans and getaways which I have been discussing with Grumpy...

He's not super keen on going away again this year as, SPOILER, we may be getting a puppy...

Watch this space!

But, naturally, this week we begun discussing possible travel plans anyway and as usual, we arrived after much discussion at the F word...

At this point, the discussion usually goes from optimistic and exciting, to damn right argumentative.

I should let you know that Grumpy, the hater of all things Disney, has no desire to go to Walt Disney World in Orlando, and this in itself is resulting in a very realistic fear for me...

My favourite Disney Princesses… revisited!

If you have been a follower of the My Disney Blog for a while, you may remember my original Top 5 Disney Princess post a little while back.

As a pretty opinionated, but easily influenced person, my favourite things can often be quite interchangeable, so I really wanted to go back and revisit this post to examine my favourite Disney Princesses right now, and see if they’re the same as before!

The list is mostly unchanged...

Previous Favourites:

1. Princess Jasmine
2. Belle
3. Pocahontas
4. Princess Aurora
5. Merida

Current Favourites:

1. Princess Jasmine
2. Belle
3. Princess Aurora
4. Elsa
5. Pocahontas

Obviously the list has shuffled around a little, but the real big change is the removal of Merida and the addition of our very own Snow Queen, Elsa. I suppose technically both Elsa and her little sister Anna are not included in the official Disney Princess line-up, as Frozen is very much considered it’s own franchise but, for the purposes of this list, I wanted to include them regardless.

So... Queen Elsa.

What is it about her that I really like? And why has she replaced Merida in my Top 5?

My 28th Birthday

28! I can't quite believe it, can you?!

I have had the best week celebrating in style with my family and friends, eating, drinking, and partaking in much silliness!

As with previous years, this post is a little celebration of the lovely gifts that I received for my Birthday that are (naturally) DISNEY THEMED!

I should also just add that this post is in no way meant to be 'boastful' or come across as bragging at all. I'm incredibly touched by the generosity of my loved ones year after year, and know how much you all love finding out about cool Disney products and merchandise so this post always seems like a lovely way of blending the two things together!

Without further ado, let's get stuck in!

AladdinXPrimark Make Up Bag from my lovely friend and ChatDisney co-host, Tash
With the release of the live action Aladdin last month, and Jasmine being my all time favourite Disney princess, I received lots of lovely bits and pieces featuring the characters of Agrabah - perfect timing Disney! My friends Tash, Steph and Dan all bought me beauty pieces from the AladdinXPrimark collection which I was thrilled about as every time I popped in there, they had sold out!

Tips for a first time visit to Disneyland in California

Hey everybody!

Despite my California trip feeling like a long, long, long time ago, I recently received a lovely message from an old Uni friend which has completely sparked up my passion for the West Coast resort once again!

The individual in question explained that he is visiting LA for his Honeymoon, and he is a self professed Theme Park fan. Essentially, he wanted some insight into both Disneyland and California Adventure from a fellow 'expert', and I was of course more than happy to oblige.

Whilst composing my response to him I thought, like any good marketeer does, yeah, there's some content in there! So there you have it – this is going to be a pretty niche post but hopefully, my insight into the Californian Disney parks will help some of you as you venture off on your first trip to Anaheim and experience the one that started them all.

Enjoy! And if you have anything you'd like to add to this, or any further Disney related questions, you can find my contact details on the blog!

My Thoughts: Disney's Aladdin

If you're anything like me, you're probably becoming more than a little skeptical about the sudden surge in Disney live action remakes.

Whilst I'm slightly apposed to the regurgitation of these animated classics, I do have to admit that I loved the sets and costumes in Beauty and The Beast, Brannagh's take on Cinderella had me well and truly captivated, and whilst The Jungle Book was not my favourite movie growing up, I could still appreciate the incredibly innovative CGI technology and excellent performances featured within the 2016 remake.

With all that in mind, I really didn't know what to expect ahead of entering the cinema for the latest of Disney's live action movies, Aladdin.

First of all, Aladdin is one of my all time favourite Disney movies. Growing up in the 90s, the Renaissance Era of Disney has always been my favourite period of Disney Animation and Aladdin is very much a key part to play in that. That wonderful Alan Menken score, the exciting characters, the vibrant colours – watching the animation now as an adult, it is truly no wonder to me that this movie has been adapted in subsequent years for Broadway and London's West End as it really is a wonderfully decadent spectacle that lends itself beautifully to the medium of theatre.

It's pretty understandable that I was very nervous about the adaptation of this movie as it is so dear to my heart! And, to make the stakes even higher, Aladdin also just so happens to feature my favourite Disney character of all time too, Princess Jasmine.

I really wanted this movie to be good but my expectations were low.

Praise Allah, I had my expectations well and truly exceeded.

How Disney helps with my anxiety and wellbeing

A photo of me at Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim, earlier this year

You see that photo of me at Disneyland? Look how happy I look! The phrase 'the happiest place on Earth' was coined by Walt Disney when he opened his original Disneyland park in 1955 and for me, this statement still has a very deep rooted element of truth.

Off the back of the UK's Mental Health Awareness Week, I decided to post something, a little more personal than usual, that I hope resonates with some of you.

Ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week, a few weeks ago I posted a video to my Instagram story where I spoke quite openly and honestly about my struggles with Anxiety – this was a first for me as my mental health is something that I have never opened up about on Social Media before.

The response was overwhelming. I had several people contact me – friends, family members, old school peers, strangers, friends of friends – each explaining that they admired my bravery, that the video encouraged them to be open about their struggles with mental health, that they too have mental health issues and felt comforted by the video, that they had a loved one that struggled and they wanted some advice...

It went on and on and on, and I felt truly energised and inspired by the fact that my seemingly small action, could have caused such a positive reaction. I said in the video that if it helped even just one person, that I'd be happy, and it did exactly that.

So, in a similar vein, I wanted to share with you all how Disney has really come to help me to combat my anxiety over the years. If you're a regular listener of the ChatDisney Podcast, you'll know that Tash and I have discussed how for many people, Disney is their safe place, and I am certainly no exception to this.

I hope you enjoy the post, and if you have any questions about mental health or need advice and support, you can check out, or reach out to your local GP.

Will you ever visit all six Disney Resorts?

Hey Everybody!

I hope you're all having a really good time now that the sun has finally decided to show itself – can you believe it's May already? What is happening to 2019!

One of my proudest achievements so far this year has most definitely been starting up the ChatDisney Podcast with my BFF, Tash! If you haven't yet given it a listen, I would really appreciate it if you could, and as ever, let us know any feedback!

In the ChatDisney episodes so far, Tash and I have been discussing and exploring each of the Disney Resorts and Parks around the world...

Top Left: WDW, Florida - 2009, Top Right: Shanghai Disneyland - 2016, Bottom Left: Disneyland Paris - 2018, Bottom Right: Disneyland, California - 2019
I have been very fortunate during my 27 years on this planet and visited four out of the six Disney Resorts around the globe, the first being Disneyland Paris when it opened in 1992, and the most recent being the one that started them all – the original Disneyland park in Anaheim, California.

I often get asked if I have any plans in the pipeline to visit the remaining two Disney parks on the list: Tokyo Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland.

My Top 10 Attractions at Disneyland, CA

My trip to Disneyland and California Adventure feels like a lifetime ago now...

To help keep the spirit of my vacation alive and to (hopefully) provide a little knowledge to you all, this blog post is dedicated to my favourite attractions at the Californian Disney parks!

Enjoy! And don't forget to let me know your favourite Disneyland/DCA attractions in the comments below!

P.s. For even more on Disneyland and California Adventure, listen back to Episode 3 of ChatDisney!

Soarin' over California has recently been updated to Soarin' around the World in the majority of Disney parks and California is no exception. After riding this in Shanghai, I knew what to expect but I still really enjoyed the attraction... even if I didn't get to sit on the higher tier!

Trip Report: Disneyland, California

Hey everybody!

I hope you're all having a good 2019 so far! Last week, I returned from a trip that I had been really looking forward to for quite some time...

My road trip around the state of California!

Grumpy and I visited San Fransisco, before driving via Sacramento to ski at Squaw Valley, Lake Tahoe. After that, we travelled down to Yosemite and eventually, finished up in L.A.

Once the main portion of the trip was over, the real fun was about to begin as we finished up in Anaheim to visit the original Disneyland Resort.

Hey! What happened to the Castle?
As a super Disney fan, I was really excited to visit the original park that Walt had created himself, and I can't wait to share my experience with you all.

Enjoy! And don't forget to leave me a message in the comments if you like or, for more on my trip, be sure to check out Episode 2, California over on the ChatDisney podcast.

Which Disney Parks have you been to?

Hey boys and dolls,

Perhaps one of the most frequently asked questions that I get about Disney and specifically, the parks, is which resorts around the world have I been to and how many times?

Theme Park Trader: My First Podcast Experience

Howdy all!

After what certainly felt like the longest January ever, snow and wet weather have welcomed us into the 'love'-ly month of February... yay!

With Valentine's Day upon us, I've been taking a little more time out doing the things that I love and feel passionate about, one of which is of course getting more involved with the Disney community!

With a full time job, family and friends to catch up on, and fitness and yoga classes to attend, life can be pretty full on - so this month I'm going to make it my mission to be 'on it' when it comes to Disney stuff... including the blog!

No photo description available.
Check out Ryan and Dan's Podcast; it's not to be missed!

I had the absolute pleasure of recording with Ryan and Dan over at Theme Park Trader this weekend for their impressive 157th Episode! We chatted about all things Disney parks ranging from my amazing trip to Shanghai Disney in 2016, and of course, my upcoming trip to Anaheim in less than a month's time!

You can listen to the podcast here.

I have been listening to Theme Park Trader for a little while now; after Ricky Brigante very sadly stopped recording Inside The Magic, I had been looking for a Disney podcast to replace it, and Ryan and Dan's was one that I found to be very relatable and good fun!

The Princess Jasmine, 1990s VHS Beauty and The Beast and mini Mickey Mouse notebooks pictured above were all Christmas gifts from various relatives this year. I also believe that Santa purchased the Minnie and Mickey Cath Kidston spot notebook for me about two Christmases ago.

I absolutely love to write and make lists, and I honestly believe that one can NEVER have too many notebooks. The perfect Christmas present for me.
