2018 Movie Reviews: including Mary Poppins Returns and Wreck It Ralph 2

Hey!

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break! I have eaten far too much chocolate and have pretty much become glued to my TV over this past week; Netflix have really stepped up to the mark!

But, amongst the awesome Bird Box and Bandersnatch releases which have literally sent the internet into meltdown, Disney have also been releasing some pretty cool material of late.

Some familiar faces return for Wreck It Ralph 2

I decided that as the year is drawing to a close, now would be a good time to sit back and reflect on some of the awesome cinema that Disney has brought us this past year and of course, give you a brief summary of my thoughts on the movies that I have seen.

Let me know your favourite 2018 Disney releases in the comments section below!

Happy 90th Birthday Mickey!

Unless you've been living under a rock, you have probably noticed over the last few weeks that there has been a lot of celebration for one particular mouse...

That's right. On Sunday 18th November, Mickey Mouse celebrated his 90th Birthday!

Of course I needed to celebrate the occasion, so I ventured into the capital with my Mum and Sister in tow, and we visited a wonderful little pop up art exhibit at The Black and White Building in trendy Shoreditch; the theme of the exhibit? Why Mickey of course...

Disney had organised the exhibit, and the artists exhibiting used a range of different techniques to capture Mickey in action; it was really refreshing to see such a diverse display of pieces, all effectively conveying the lifecycle and evolution of one of pop culture's most recognisable characters.

One of the seven original posters available for purchase via auction
In addition to the bespoke works that were being displayed, there was also an auction room with some original, vintage posters available.

If I had £40,000 to spare, I most definitely would have picked up a few...

And, amongst all of the wonderful Mickey pieces, there was also one dedicated to the man behind the mouse; a gorgeous, hand-drawn sketch that I particularly liked as I felt that it really paid homage to the art form that made Walt such a success in the first place!

I'm not usually the 'art gallery' type (despite my last office being literally, inside a gallery) preferring stately homes and museums when needing a little culture! But the accessibility of the subject matter on showcase here, made for a really enjoyable afternoon and who knows, perhaps this won't be my last gallery visit...

Happy Birthday Mickey.

5 Things Nobody Tells You Before Your Disneyland Trip...

Hey lovely Disneys,

I hope you’re all having a wonderful autumn… Christmas fever is well and truly upon us at the moment! Have things already started feeling festive in your home?

It’s no secret that I’m a HUGE Christmas fan – usually, I’m definitely more Buddy The Elf than Scrooge however, for this post, I’m channelling my inner Grinch and will be discussing the less glamorous side of Disney parks with those little niggles that nobody ever really shares. Plus, a few nuggets of wisdom that will hopefully help you to combat the problematic scenarios listed below.

Enjoy – and if you have anything to share to this list, remember to add your thoughts in the comments section below!

Five things nobody tells you about visiting a Disney Park

1)   Queuing sucks...

So this one is not exactly a huge secret – we all know how rubbish queues at Theme Parks can be, and Disneyland is no exception to this.

After finding that all the fastpasses had sold out for the recently opened Toy Story Mania during my 2012 to Walt Disney World, I unwillingly entered the three hour queue for the attraction only to be thoroughly disappointed and underwhelmed at the attraction which – whilst awesome – only lasted a measly few minutes…

Would you queue for an hour to ride the teacups?

Do not let yourself become this person.

Plan ahead. Utilise fastpasses, visit the parks off peak, ride during parade time, bring activities for little ones, and big kids too! Do not get caught out by queuing, which sadly, can be inevitable.

During my last trip to Alton Towers with my Sister and Grumpy, we rather naively decided to go the Saturday before Halloween… you can imagine how busy the place was. The shortest queues were between 60 and 90 minutes long and some of the longest… over three hours.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT let your holiday become standing in line. Not worth your time.

Trip Announcement: Disneyland, CA 2019!

Apologies that I haven’t posted in a little while – the new house is taking up a LOT of my spare time!

This autumn, I’ve also been celebrating with my friends and family a lot including my upcoming ‘Coco'-inspired Dia De Los Muertos/ housewarming party which will be taking place soon - I can’t wait!

Grumpy and I haven’t been away together since our Disneyland Paris trip in January 2018, so we have decided that it’s about time we enjoy life a little more (we’ve been saving for the new house non-stop!) so we have booked the ultimate trip of a lifetime…

A road trip across California!

We’ll be starting in San Fran where I’m super excited to visit the famous Walt Disney Family Museum, before embarking on a little ski trip through Lake Tahoe, staying in Yosemite and then finally arriving in LA where I will of course be paying a town called Anaheim a visit…

That’s right folks! 2019 marks the year that I will be visiting the original Disneyland park for the very first time!

I'm so, so, so, so EXCITED!

If you have been lucky enough to visit Disneyland in Anaheim, I would love to hear all of your tips, tricks and hints to help our stay become a truly magical one!

I will of course be reaching out to my friends and family that have been to Disneyland including my good friend Daniel who kindly allowed me to interview him for this blog after his first trip to Anaheim last year

So far we have some ideas on dining at Disney and our accommodation has been booked - so watch this space!

My little sister turns 18... Disney style!

Hey!

It has been a busy month indeed!

Not only have I moved (again!) but I have also been super busy celebrating a special little lady turning 18...

That's right my 'not-so-baby' sister is finally a woman... in the eyes of the law!

My Beautiful Sister on her Birthday
One of the highlights of her Birthday was most definitely the little Disney touches included which mostly meant cake, cake and plenty more cake!

Cake made by Kelly's Cakes
A huge shout out goes to the wonderful Kelly's Cakes for putting together this magnificent red velvet concoction which features all of my sister's favourite things including her MAC obsession plus, Stitch and Rapunzel, her favourite Disney characters.

shopDisney is now LIVE!

Hey Howdy Hey!

What an exciting week is has been; after much anticipation, shopDisney is HERE!

There has been much speculation about what exactly shopDisney is and how it differs from The Disney Store, and now that it's live, I think I have a pretty good understanding...

and it's just AMAZING.

You can now purchase your favourite Disney Parks items and more from shopDisney

For a while now, it has been evident to us 'Disneys' that the company behind the Mouse were clearly deciding to make a change of direction with regards to merchandise. Guided by the closure of many Disney Stores across the UK, Disney have been doing A LOT of partnerships with existing brands recently...

I'm thinking DisneyXCathKidston, DisneyXPandora... heck even DisneyXPrimark!

I thought, as we all did, that these partnerships were a fabulous idea with regards to sales and marketing... get Disney all across the High Street and surely you will make more revenue... piece of cake! That must have been the logic behind it, right? But to my utter amazement, the geniuses at Disney have taken it one step further, as ever, in the way that only Disney can!

Enter shopDisney...

shopDisney is an online hub for everything Disney! I'm talking Disney Store merchandise PLUS Disney Parks and Resorts paraphernalia and of course, those very, very successful partnership items! So whilst your next browsing shopDisney for which Disney Mug you want to add to your collection, why not add a brand new Danielle Nicole Passport Cover also? Or a Hype backpack for the new term in September!

GENIUS.

Hey Y'all,

I hope you're all well and enjoying the INSANELY hot weather we are having here in the UK!

Amongst Love Island, the crazy hot weather and Wedding season, you may have missed the launch of the DisneyXHype collection last week...

If so, you really should head over to JustHype.co.uk/ and check it out; there are some awesome pieces in this collaboration.

Here are a few of my favourites...

5.  Hype White Dalamatians Backpack

I talk a lot about ‘subtle’ Disney when I’m reviewing products or discussing new collaborations and launches. My Grumpy, Disney-hating Boyfriend will often roll his eyes at me…

“How can Disney ever be subtle?”

Well, I truly believe that Hype have captured precisely what I mean in this awesome design; subtle Disney at it’s finest!

From a far, we have a very simple, paint-splattered, monotone rucksack but to the more trained eye, the addition of small, Disney Dalmatian puppies, make for a unique, quirky and innovative design and overall concept. Love, love, love!

My 27th Birthday

Hey!

It’s been a hectic few weeks so I haven’t been able to post as frequently as I would have liked - apologies for that!

Between my Birthday, lots of Weddings and starting a new job, I simply haven’t had as much time as I would like to dedicate to the blog – but I’m working on it. Promise.

My Birthday feels like an absolute age away now! It was naturally filled with lots of lovely little Disney touches that I wanted to share with you all! As ever, I’m incredibly grateful to everyone that celebrated with me – they all know me so well as you will see by the beautiful gifts listed below

Cath Kidston announces NEW Alice in Wonderland Collection

I hate to say "I told you so" but, I totally told you so.

Earlier today I received a very exciting Email from Cath Kidston...

That's right, the next Cath Kidston and Disney collaboration will feature none other than Walt Disney's 1951 Classic, Alice in Wonderland. All we know so far about this exciting collaboration is that one of the prints featured will depict Alice 'painting the roses red' in a gorgeous, floral print, atypical of Cath Kidston. Oh and we also know that the collection will be launching in May of this year and as usual of DisneyXCathKidston launches, items will be limited to five per person.

The Ultimate Ranking of the Disneyland Paris Hotels!

Hey everybody!

Apologies for the radio silence over the past month! I promise that I will be posting more content over the coming weeks and I will also try and get my Season of The Force Vlog uploaded to YouTube for you too!

This post is all about a very common subject which I often get asked questions about...

Which Disneyland Paris Hotel is best?

So, in order to answer this question for you, I have decided to put together a definitive ranking so that you can decide which Disneyland Paris Hotel is best for you...

The factors that I have taken into consideration include:

  • Distance from the Parks
  • Value for Money
  • Amenities Available
  • and Hotel Decor

It is important to remember that ALL Disneyland Paris Hotels are really lovely and what you might find in a 2 star Hotel at Disney, would be in a 3 star Hotel anywhere else in the World!

This post includes a ranking of all 7 of the official Disneyland Paris Hotels and does not include Partner Hotels such as The Vienna House Magic Circus Hotel for example.

I hope you enjoy this list and let me know if you agree with the rankings in the comments section below!

Happy Friday everybody!

I'm planning on doing just a little bit of shopping this weekend and, speaking of shopping, there is nothing that I love more than browsing the boutiques during Disney trips!

I didn't buy that much merchandise during my most recent trip to Disneyland Paris (due to my Grumpy Boyfriend being present) but the things that I did buy, I absolutely love!

That's Me! Standing on Main Street USA on a grey day, Disneyland Souvenir Mug in hand!

You can check out my Disneyland Paris Haul which is now LIVE on YouTube; please remember to subscribe for more Disney content coming soon!

My Thoughts on Pixar's Coco

Hola Amigos!

Yesterday, I had the great pleasure of FINALLY going to the cinema with my BDFF (that's my Best Disney Friend Forever) and watching Disney, Pixar's Coco!

I was hoping to see Coco during the weekend of it's UK release but I was busy packing for my upcoming Disneyland trip - priorities!

I'm going to try and share my thoughts on the movie in as much detail as possible but without giving away too much of the plot... not an easy task!

Enjoy! And if you have also been lucky enough to see Coco, let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Enjoy,
Mercedes

(*Please note that all information is correct as of January 2018. Schedules are changed frequently at Disney Theme Parks so this may not be accurate at the time of your travel.)
