Have yourself a Disney little Christmas...

Merry Christmas one and all...

Yes, I know I am a little late! I have been very busy over the festive period as I'm sure you all have...

Catching up with my family, seeing friends, sale shopping and cinema trips have consumed the entirety of my holidays.

I hope you all have very full bellies and lots of lovely new possessions to admire. I know I certainly do! In fact, this post is dedicated to all of the beautiful gifts that I have received for Christmas. Well, I say 'all' of the gifts... but I will of course be focusing specifically on the Disney items that I have received!

Please let me know of any Disney gifts that you received this Christmas in the comments below. I would love to hear about them all.

Wishing you all the best for 2017!

Grumpy goes to Disneyland!

Hey everybody!

I haven't been writing as much recently as I am currently recovering from foot surgery! Fear not, I still have so many things to share with you all including more on my recent trip to Shanghai Disneyland amongst other things...

For those of you that know me personally, the big question on your lips when I got back from Shanghai Disney was...

What did Chris think of Disneyland?

Chris in the beautiful Shanghai Disneyland Hotel lobby

To set the scene, Chris is my boyfriend. He's 26 years old, quite quiet, very sensible and thinks I have the personality of a six year old, little girl... so he's also pretty observant! Oh, and until now, he had NEVER been to a Disney park. Not once. In fact, the idea of going away on holiday to Disneyland, was his idea of hell.

Shanghai Disneyland Top Tips!

In case you're planning an upcoming trip to Shanghai Disneyland, I wanted to share with you my Top Tips so that you know exactly what to expect ahead of your visit. In other words, these are the pieces of information that I wish I had known before my experience of the park.

Please sit back, relax and read on. Hopefully you'll be grateful of these tips when you arrive and are so well prepared... haha, you're welcome!

My Thoughts: Disneyland Paris' 25th Anniversary Celebrations!

Hey guys and girls!

I thought I'd give you all a little break from the Shanghai Disney spam and instead focus on something a lot closer to home...

Disneyland Resort Paris' 25th Birthday announcement...

Official Disneyland Paris, 25th Birthday artwork
It's always very easy for me to remember when a Disneyland Paris celebration is approaching as the park is exactly one year younger than I am! I admit, yes, that upon turning 25, I thought to myself "hmm, Disneyland Paris must be having their 25th anniversary soon...'

This is the way my brain works.

We're going on ANOTHER Princess hunt...

Hey everybody!

I hope you're ready for more from my Shanghai Disneyland trip!

As my post 'We're going on a Princess hunt' was such a success, I've decided to provide you with an extensive list of precisely where you can spot each of the Disney Princesses currently at Shanghai Disney Resort!

First Impressions: Shanghai Disneyland

Hey everyone!

Apologies for the lack of posts. I'm now back in the UK after my adventure in China and more importantly, the reason that you're probably reading this post, I am now ready to discuss my time at Shanghai Disney Resort with you!

Chris and I in front of the Shanghai Disneyland Castle
I have decided to do a series of posts dedicated to different aspects of Shanghai Disneyland as there is just so much that I want to share with you all... unsurprisingly! So I'm starting with this post:

Those of you that read my last blog post, Countdown to Shanghai Disneyland, may remember that there were five core areas that I was particularly eager to discover on my visit; so what better place to start than by addressing my initial curiosities...

Exciting News! Plus, Disney's Aladdin The Musical Review

Hey!

I have some really exciting news to share with you all...

The super Disney fans amongst you will probably be familiar with Disney fan-site, DisneyExaminer. It's kind of like an online magazine which quite literally 'examines' everything Disney from theme parks and movies to merchandise and shows.

Well, guess who is really happy to announce that they were asked to send through their thoughts on Disney's Aladdin The Musical which has now been published on the DisneyExaminer site... did I mention this mystery person is REALLY excited.

Yep, you guessed it!

I am really thrilled and (hopefully) you will be seeing a lot more of me over on the DisneyExaminer.

As ever, please let me know your thoughts in the comments section; I would love to know if you have seen the show and what your opinion was.

- MercedesLois x

P.s. Look how awesome this mug and 'Jasmine' infused tea are...

I could not resist them! Honestly, the show was worth it just for these souvenirs!

How many times have you been to Disneyland?

Ladies and Gentlemice,

I hope you're having a brilliant summer and that the weather is good where you are! I am counting down the weeks to my China holiday which means my trip to Shanghai Disneyland is fast approaching. I am super excited! Thinking about my upcoming vacation reminded me of a question that I get asked a lot...

"How many times have you been to Disneyland?"

To which I usually playfully answer back with, "In California? Never!".

So this post is for you, the curious. A complete collection of every Disney vacation that I have ever taken*.

Enjoy x

Aladdin The Musical: My First Disney Bound

Disney bounding.

It's the craze that is taking over Disney Instagram accounts and parks by storm and yet, it's something that I had never tried out for myself... until now.

First off, a lot of you probably have no idea what a 'Disney bound' is so please, allow me to explain...

Dictionary of MercedesLois

noun

1. A Disney bound is an outfit, not costume, inspired by a Disney character that you have put together using your own personal style and taste. You can find out a little more on the Disney bound site here.

Example: "I am totally going to do an Aurora inspired Disney bound the next time I go to the Magic Kingdom!"
Verb: Disney bounding

Hopefully that has cleared that up for you.

Now, some of you may recall that my lovely boyfriend bought me tickets to see Disney's Aladdin The Musical in London's West End for my Birthday and as Aladdin is my favourite Disney movie and Jasmine is my favourite Disney Princess, I decided that this was the perfect time to try out Disney bounding for myself.

My Thoughts: Disney and Pixar's Finding Dory

I have finally been to the cinema to discover the latest movie from Disney and Pixar, Finding Dory. Unsurprisingly, I had very high expectations...

As the sequel to the 2003 hit and firm fan favourite Finding Nemo, this movie really had a lot to live up to. Here are my thoughts on the movie; I'll let you be the judge as to whether or not you feel this movie was a strong enough follow-up to the original. Enjoy and as ever, please feel free to share your views in the comments section below.

Everything you should know about Harry Potter and The Cursed Child

"I solemnly swear that I am up to no good..."

Apologies in advance to those of you that are not Potter fans but I couldn't wait to share this with you guys...

I had the very special privilege
last weekend of catching a preview of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child ahead of its official release this Sunday, 31st July.

As such, I have created a SPOILER FREE summary of everything you should know before you go. Perhaps you have already got your tickets and are super excited to learn more or maybe you're not sure whether or not you can justify the hefty costs involved with attending two plays in London's West End!

Hopefully I can answer your questions for you and put your mind at ease...

What if Pokémon Go was Disney?

Hola!

Apologies for the lack of posts recently; I've been a little preoccupied on holiday enjoying the beautiful Spanish rays, and a tan is not all I've been catching...

I have recently acquired a new hobby, one that I am sure I am not alone in:

It has literally taken over my life.

I have evolved from Mercedes Lois Bull, 25 year old female living in Hove and complete devotee to all things Disney into, Username: MercedesLois, a 25 year old, accident-prone zombie who likes wandering aimlessly around the South of England and has become a little bit of a 'Pokémon-hunting' extraordinaire!

I really am obsessed.
I have been reading the coverage on the world's most popular gaming app and what I keep stumbling across is news on how popular the app has been at Disney parks

It's unsurprising really; a large group of fun-loving fanatics, all vacationing at 'the happiest place on earth', standing around in queues all day and walking for the rest of the time... of course such a time-waster and on this large a scale, with such an active nature, would be an instant hit with 'park-goers'.

This Fairy Tale Life
has even produced the ultimate guide to Pokémon Go at Disneyland which you can read here!

This Fairy Tale Life's Guide to Playing at Disneyland

Over at WDW Info, they've gone a step further and discussed whether or not they believe it would be viable or even profitable for Disney to create a Pokémon Go style app in the future which you can read more about here

Unsurprisingly, my overactive imagination has already gone a step further than that and thought what it would be like if Pokémon Go was Disney inspired...

Seriously,
imagine the characters you could capture.

My Fave Five Disney Princesses

Since I was a little girl, probably the biggest appeal that Disney had to me (aside from the awesome family holidays) was of course, the Disney Princesses.

Looking around five year old Mercedes' bedroom, you would have seen all sorts of knick-knacks; a replica Cinderella Glass Slipper, several Princess dolls, a Mrs. Potts teapot accompanying a china Chip and fancy dress costumes including Mulan, Jasmine and a beautiful Snow White dress which was handmade by my late Grandmother.

Looking around my bedroom currently, you'll find that the Jasmine costume has been traded in for a pair of equally as comfortable Jasmine
pyjamas and of course, there's that almighty collection of Disney Blu Rays... not much has changed in twenty years.

So here it is, the 'official' list of my favourite Disney Princesses. This is probably, of all my posts, the one most dear to my heart and definitely the one that has taken the longest to compose!

I hope you enjoy it.

My 25th Birthday - Disney Style!

I've never really been one for 'hauls' before as I feel that showing off about things that I have purchased seems a little... well, spoilt! However, the sheer generosity of my nearest and dearest has compelled me to write this post.

Here are the 'Disney' inspired gifts that I received on Sunday 5th June, my 25th Birthday! Enjoy!

First up, this beautiful, vintage movie poster Cinderella tin...

He noticed me, he really noticed me!

Hey there fellow Disney fans,
I have had a very busy few weeks, mostly due to my Birthday celebrations which have now come to an end; I promise to post all of my Disney related gifts as soon as I can! Surprisingly, there weren't too many this year.

Anyway, I digress. The reason for this post is that something very, very exciting happened to me this weekend. Basically, Brian Hull, you know, that guy that does the AWESOME Disney and Pixar impressions whilst singing popular songs?

Shanghai Disney Resort: Garden of The 12 Friends

Hey everybody,

I hope you've all been enjoying the fab weather this past weekend; the sunshine has got me super excited about my upcoming trip to China, even if it is several months away!

One element of Shanghai Disney Resort that I have been really curious about is an area which features 'Disney-fied' versions of the Chinese Zodiac. This is of course more commonly known as, the Garden of The Twelve Friends.

Another Ten Disney Inspired LUSH Products

After the huge success of my last Disney inspired LUSH products post, I have decided to make another... and here it is! Enjoy*

1. Tangled Hot Oil Treatment

After my first Disney inspired LUSH post, a very good friend of mine and subsequently, fellow 'LUSHie' and Disney fan text me immediately saying, "What about the Tangled hair treatment?" and of course, he was right. I can not believe that I didn't include this in the first post! A particular favourite of mine, this hot oil treatment from LUSH is sure to give you hair even Rapunzel would envy. Whilst the paste can be quite sticky to apply and wash out afterwards, this rosewood and ylang ylang treatment leaves my hair in great condition and smelling fit for a Princess!

My Thoughts: Disney's The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book; a Walt Disney classic and firm favourite of literary enthusiasts everywhere. As the last animated project for Walt Disney himself to actively work on before his death in 1966, Disney's 1967 animated adaptation has become somewhat of a shining star amongst the Disney community and fans of the 'official' Disney classics. For this reason, you may be shocked to discover that I, Mercedes, the self-proclaimed Disney expert and fanatic of all things animated, have never been much of a Jungle Book fan...

This said, I needed to see the live action adaptation. Yes, needed! And so, last night, I walked into the cinema with an open mind, willing this movie to be brilliant. And, it was. It truly was just that.

Disney's Magic Kingdoms... again!

Hey everyone!

I have persevered with the Disney's Magic Kingdoms app and as promised, will share with you my thoughts now that I am 'slightly' more informed.

First of all, I have now unlocked some new characters so that has made for slightly more interesting gameplay! Each character has unique tasks that they can perform for a designated time of your choosing which range from a few minutes to several hours. Basically, it's the exact same structure as The Simpsons: Tapped Out mobile app in that the longer your character continues their task, the larger the reward you receive... and the more bored with the game you will become! Exchanging The Simpsons 'doughnut' currency with diamonds, players will quickly discover that in order to be able to fully enjoy this game without time restrictions and with quick progression, you need to part with REAL CASH.

My Thoughts: Disney's Zootropolis

So I'll keep this short and sweet in order to avoid spoilers as best I can. First of all, I absolutely LOVED Zootropolis. Clearly the clever word play of 'Zootopia' is lost with the new UK title however, the sentiment is still there.

The plot revolves around our female protagonist, a bunny named Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) who, despite her cute and fluffy exterior is determined to become a part of Zootropolis' next generation of police officers. However, Judy gets caught up along the way in the scheming antics of the cunning fox, Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) and the duo go on an 'tailspin' adventure to uncover the biggest scandal in Zootropolis history.

Update: Shanghai Disneyland's Enchanted Storybook Castle is revealed

After much excitement and high expectation surrounding it, Shanghai Disneyland have finally released their first night-time shot of the beautiful Enchanted Storybook Castle. Disney promise that this will be their largest and most impressive Castle to date.

Zootropolis?

By happy coincidence, my other half (who for the record, does not like Disney) is away the week of Zootopia's UK release so I was just planning on purchasing my cinema ticket for one when I noticed something peculiar on the Odeon website... Zootopia was not an option? However, there were plenty of showings for Zootropolis?

NEW: Disney Magic Kingdoms App

After the first announcement was made at the D23 Expo in the summer of 2015, finally almost a year on, the much anticipated Disney Magic Kingdoms mobile game has finally hit the app store!

Ten Disney Inspired LUSH Products

As an avid Disney fan and therefore, automatically a believer in True Love, it should hardly be surprising that I myself am fortunate enough to have two great loves:

1. Disney
and
2. LUSH Cosmetics

LUSH are probably my favourite retailer on the High Street at the moment and not only because their products are packed with so much natural goodness but because they do exactly what they say they will, look great and smell even better! So, in honour of my love of both Disney and LUSH, here are my Top Ten Disney-inspired* LUSH Products of all time. Enjoy!

1. Frozen Bath Bomb

'Do you wanna have a bath bomb? Do you wanna splash and play?', inspired by the success of Disney's animated classic Frozen, it really should come as no surprise that the movie would go on to inspire the creativity of the wonderful people at LUSH. Full of refreshing grapefruit and rose... and some sparkles too, this bath bomb is sure to brighten up even the frostiest of days.

Exciting NEW Content from JK Rowling: Magic in North America

Following on from my post earlier this year regarding JK Rowling's revelation about International Wizarding Schools (you can read about that here) yesterday, it was announced that we will finally get a little taste of what life is like for Wizards in North America...

Many people were quite disappointed back in February when Rowling released her snippets about additional Wizarding Schools around the world due to the lack of information provided about North America and more specifically, its school Ilvermorny. Those people yesterday had their wishes well and truly granted.

BRAND NEW: Disney Updates and Finding Dory Trailer!

Hey everybody!

We have been very lucky this week with lots of exciting news from Disney including...

  • A first look at Rivers of Lighta brand new show coming to Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom. The show, set to debut on 22nd April, will feature two storytellers who 'call forth' upon four mystical, animal spirit guides to lead audiences through the story. The show will take place in the Asia section of the park.
  • The announcement of a brand new Big Hero 6 TV Series which is set to launch in 2017 on Disney XD. I am particularly excited about this!
  • Guests have finally started to meet and greet with Kylo Ren at Walt Disney World's Star Wars Launch Bay. After reports in January, it's great to finally see the end result. There are lots of photos and videos on social media, so be sure to check this out!
And finally, perhaps the most anticipated piece of Disney News that we have received this week, we have finally got a trailer for Disney Pixar's Finding Dory. The trailer, which was released yesterday on The Ellen Show, depicts Dory (played by DeGeneres) on her quest to reunite with her estranged family. Tackling similar issues to it's predecessor, this movie is sure to tug at the heart strings as our leading lady struggles to come to terms with her apparent abandonment.

Update: Shanghai Disneyland Resort

Exciting news!

Disney Parks have just released some more information regarding the newest addition to the Disney family:
Shanghai Disneyland Resort.

This update comes in the form of a preview video released by Disney which details some of the most anticipated attractions at the Resort.

I am particularly excited as I will be visiting the park this September! I think the attractions that I am most looking forward to have got to be the reimagined Pirates of The Caribbean and of course, the beautiful Castle which promises to be the largest of any Disney Castle yet!

Disney Top Tips

The question I probably get asked the most by friends and colleagues is to help them plan their Disney Vacation. The truth is, the perfect Disney holiday drastically varies from one person to the next. I really have to 'fact-find' before giving any advice...

"How much are you willing to spend?
Are you travelling with small children or teenagers?
How much walking are you prepared to do?
How long are you going to be staying for?

What types of food do you like to eat and what's your budget?

Do you enjoy thrill rides?"

There are so many things to consider! As ever, I am happy to answer any questions you may have on an individual basis in the comments below but for now, here are my Top Tips that will hopefully help everyone get the most out of their Disney vacation!

The amazing people are Disney Parks have just announced something that I am sure is going to make a lot of very special people's weekends and you can all get involved very simply; here's how...

For every photo that you share of you in your Mickey or Minnie ears, Disney Parks promise to donate $5 to the wonderful people at The Make-A-Wish Foundation.

To get involved, all you need to do is upload your photo to Social Media (Facebook*, Instagram or Twitter) and make sure you hashtag #ShareYourEars. It couldn't be simpler! And if you don't own a pair of ears already, improvise! Lots of people have been making their own Mickey ears with everyday household objects, so get creative!

Custom Ears

Morgan's Baymax Ears
Bonjour Princesses and Princes,
There is currently something infiltrating the Parisian Disney Parks. Something already huge in the States, something exciting, something unique... it is of course Custom Ears.

I purchased my Princess Jasmine Custom Ears ahead of my visit to Disneyland Paris and I was so pleased that I did. Not only did Princess Jasmine  and the cast members adore them, lots of other characters including Snow White and her Prince, Mickey, Tiana and Suzy and Perla made a real fuss of them too. If you have young children that are really into meeting with the characters, this is certainly a great way for them to have a unique experience with the characters as they're just such a fun conversation opener and will make your children stand out.

We're going on a Princess hunt!

Hey everybody!

Ready for the second instalment of my Disneyland Paris trip? I hope so because this post is about probably my favourite thing in the Disney Parks; meeting Disney Princesses!

Left to Right: Prince Charming, Cinderella, Morgan, Ariel, Annika, Me, Snow White, Jo, Dan, Steph and Dan
I was at Disneyland Paris for five days at the beginning of February so anything posted regarding character meet and greets will be based on my experience at that time. I have put together a pretty comprehensive list for you all consisting of each of the 'official' Disney Princesses and where you can meet them currently at Disneyland Resort Paris.

Enjoy!

To Compass Club or not to Compass Club, that is the...

...actually it's a pretty obvious decision really!

Apologies that I've been MIA; I've had a lot of catching up to do since getting back from Disneyland Paris but I am here now to share my experiences with you all and hopefully, spread a little wisdom from my trip also!

I thought about the best way to go about posting as there is just so much that I want to say and I don't want to bombard you all so I have decided to dedicate each post to one particular aspect of my trip. This first one? Compass Club.

Tuesday, 9 February 2016

I just returned from Disneyland Paris

I have just got back from Disneyland Paris after five spectacular days in the two parks with my sister and some close friends.
We stayed in the beautiful Newport Bay Hotel and were fortunate enough to stay in one of the newly renovated Compass Club Rooms which was a-maaaaa-zing!
